FAQ
How much does the headshot session cost?
$199 for the standard session. $249 for a change of background and clothing.
What do I get from the session?
After the session, we'll have made numerous digital images. From these, you will choose your two favourites, which I will retouch. Once the edits are complete, you can download them, optimized for web, print or both.
How will I select my two favourites?
After the session, I'll send you a link to an online gallery.
Can I have more than two pictures?
Yes. You'll be able to download all the photos from the session. But I'll still need you to select your two favourites so I can retouch them.
Why do you need to retouch the photos?
The photos will look good straight out of the camera. But editing can make a good photo great. Your two favourite selections will be edited for colour temperature, tint, exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, clarity, vibrance, and sharpening. I also apply *subtle* retouching to the face: teeth whitening, hair enhancing, skin smoothing, eye brightening, wrinkle reduction, and dandruff removal when appropriate or necessary.
Where is the studio located?
The studio is located in the basement of my family's home at 2670 Atkinson Street. Street parking is plentiful. Signage indicates the studio entrance, on the south side of the house. The studio has a small waiting area and a bathroom for your convenience.
Wait. The studio is in the basement of your home?
Yes. The professional, well-lit, high-ceilinged, white-walled studio has its own direct entrance on the south side of the house. A sign indicates its location, visible from the street.
Can I bring a friend for support?
Of course! People often bring a friend to help them with hair, clothing and moral support.
How will you compose the headshots?
It depends on what you want the photo to do.
For instance, if you need it for a website, you might want a horizontal image with negative space for text or logos. If you need it for your social media, you might want a vertical or square.
If you don't have a strong preference, I'll aim to make both: some vertical 3/4 body shots, framed from thigh to above head; and horizontal 1/2 body shots, framed torso to above head. In this way, you get maximum versatility.
What mood will you attempt to create?
Depends on what message you want to send.
Most people want headshots to make them look warm, open, and trustworthy.
What file format will I get?
The digital images will be available in .jpg format. You'll be able to download them optimized for web or high resolution print.
Can I have different background colours?
Yes. Dark grey is often a reliable choice, but it depends on your clothing, personality, and what message you want to send.
Are there animals at the studio?
A friendly dog named Buster lives on the first and the second floors of the house. He doesn't go into the studio, especially during a session!
